If you suffer from a gluten allergy, sometimes known as celiac disease, you know you can’t have a sandwich for lunch, because most bread is on the ‘do not eat’ list. However, French and Italian breads are made without gluten and can be eaten in moderation. There are also several websites that sell gluten-free products such as flour for making breads and cakes and cookies.

One thing to remember as a business person is that there will be doughnuts and cake and the vending machines, but they are all off limits to a gluten suffering person. Some people find help in support groups and family members, although it may take family members a little longer to come around, you may have to eat your own food for a while, unless everyone in the family wants to eat healthy.

Going on business trips is another place in which a gluten-free diet may be a challenge to some business people. They may be taking clients out for drinks and dinners after meetings and presentations. Remember, most alcohol contains barley and therefore should be avoided. Eating out would require the same preparations as it does back at the office. Decide where you are going, call ahead of time, explain your gluten allergies and ask if they can accommodate you. Again, if they can not or will not, a salad is the best thing on the menu, without the dressing of course.

Gluten is used in some medications so it would be wise to check with your doctor or pharmacy to see if what you’ve been prescribed contains gluten, if it does, ask the doctor for a different medication. It is important for your overall health to stay gluten-free.
