A powerful version of a classic

bob from colorado - 28 Feb 2005
We have all read this classic tale, so I was concerned of how an audio adaptation would work...However, I must admit that I enjoyed this story in a way that I never expected. Some fine performances round out this program. Take a chance, you will be pleased.
A POWERHOUSE PROGRAM

John D from MA - 28 Feb 2005
The Colonial Radio shows usually have fantastic music scores. This production has none! The only music heard are trumpet calls and drums and fifes. The result is a stark and hard hitting drama that pulled me right in and made me feel like i was in the action.
A true to the spirit interpretation of a classic

Jim from Texas - 14 Mar 2005
Many consider this book to be THE masterpiece of all war novels. I do not know if I agree with that, but I do agree that it is a very powerful work. This radio drama version is very true to the original book, and conveys all the stark messages the author originally intended. It is very well done.
One Star for Effort

DLP from CA - 05 Sep 2005
I did not purchase the full version audio. Thank goodness. Just the sample drove me nutts! Way too much theater dramatics stuffed into what should be a an enjoyable listening experience. No introduction, just a horrid muffling of background noise that began. It led me to concentrate on what it could be rather than the quick rambling words of the actor saying his lines. Which I could not make out because he spoke to fast, even if he were supposed to be excited, it sounded as if he were slobbering on himself and breathing too hard. Ugh! Frustrating and lacking clarity.
I don't recommend this one to anyone.!

Well done audio

Mann from NYC - 06 Sep 2005
I am not one to write reviews, however I feel I must take issue with someone who posts a review based on listening to a short sound bite. Come on dude, get real and listen to an ENTIRE program before tossing in you two bits. I have listened to this ENTIRE program and can vouch that it is well acted, and a great interpretation of an American classic. The sound is superb (maybe you should trade in those $3 speakers for an adult pair), and you will feel as if you truly are in the middle of the action (very eerie). If you are a fan of S. Crane’s classic civil war story, you will enjoy this download.
The Red Badge of Courage

Victor Williams from Seattle, WA - 06 Sep 2005
I too don't normally write reviews, however, I must also take exception to DLP's review of The Red Badge of Courage. I've really enjoyed it and recommend it, it’s a fully performed presentation of Stephen Crane's Civil War book. It's not a "book on tape", but really I think that makes it all the better. Also, I don't see how anyone can really comment on it based on a little two minute preview, when it’s almost two hours long. Just my opinion.

Audio books
really are a wonderful thing, not only do they transport you to
other worlds, introduce you to other people’s ideas and culture,
they are also a lot more flexible than books. The book drains your
time in a world where time is a very valuable thing, in mp3or wma
format however; stories can be listened to anywhere and on any music
device. It doesn’t matter if you use an mp3 players or a cd player,
whether you are jogging, washing the pots or transforming the boring
commute to work with excitement and intrigue and you can listen to
them at any time.
Now with the internet audiobooks are a lot more accessible and
easier to obtain than normal books, going online for them is quick,
simple and saves time that would be other wise spend trawling
through stores trying to find one you really want.
Many sites offer a few free downloadable introductory titles, to get
you started and no doubt hooked on the splendour of them. What
better way to spend a Saturday evening than to sit back, relax and
enjoy a good audiobook, instead of renting a dvd or stagnating in
front of the television. Unlike rentals, they can be kept for life
and enjoyed again and again.
